OECD Hosts Three-Day Virtual Event on Combating Bid Rigging and Promoting Competition in Procurement

 

From November 17th to 19th, 2021, the OECD spearheaded a comprehensive online seminar, delving into the intricacies of bid rigging, competition, and procurement practices. Distinguished experts and authorities convened on the virtual platform to address these critical issues.

 

Kicking off the event, Mr. Ruben Maximiano, a Senior Competition Expert at OECD, and Mr. Jungwon Song, the Director General of OECD/KPC Competition Programme, welcomed participants during the opening session on Day 1. Keynote speaker Mr. Bill Kovacic from George Washington University delivered insights into the correlation between competition and procurement. The seminar also featured Ms. Despina Pachnou from OECD, who highlighted the significance of bid rigging enforcement and advocacy.

 

On Day 2, discussions encompassed strategic bid rigging investigations, evidence collection, and assessment, with a spotlight on experiences from competition authorities across the Asia-Pacific region.

 

The final day focused on collaboration with procurement agencies and procurement practices for economic recovery. The event concluded with closing remarks from Mr. Ruben Maximiano and Mr. Jungwon Song, underlining the importance of these discussions in ensuring fair and competitive procurement landscapes.
